why sleep is important

Why Making Your Baby’s Sleep A Priority Is Important

There are many, many reasons why taking your baby’s sleep skills seriously is super important. Here are just a few of them…

Baby sleep promotes growth

If you look at your baby each morning and swear they’ve grown overnight, well, they probably have! Babies bodies are constantly working while they sleep in order to help them grow at a significant rate. This mostly happens during deep sleep which is why babies need to sleep sweetly and deeply as much as possible.

Snoozing helps the heart

Some studies have shown that there may be links between children with sleep disorders and maintaining a healthy heart. Babies who don’t get enough deep sleep are often in a ‘fight or flight’ state while they rest which can increase cortisol, the stress hormone, and in turn keep the heart racing when it should be resting.

A baby’s sleep quality helps reduce risk of injury

Think about how you are when you don’t get enough sleep – clumsy, not thinking straight and impulsive, right? Children and babies are the same. Trying to run on not enough sleep increases the risk of injury while playing outside or even just crawling around the house.

Sleep helps boost learning for babies

A baby’s brain is in overdrive at night while they sleep. From their nervous system testing connections throughout the body to overall development of the brain itself, your baby’s mind needs deep sleep to work autonomously while baby’s body takes a break.

Baby sleep allows parents to get some much-needed rest!

It’s not selfish to want to catch up on some much-needed shuteye. Even superheroes need to sleep (well, most of them) – and superheroes of the parental kind do too! Being a parent, as well as dealing with life in general can be completely exhausting. In order to look after ourselves and our babies, we need to be sleeping sweetly and deeply like our little ones. When they’re asleep, we can sleep, so it’s important for us that they develop their own sleep skills.

Your baby’s sleep is so very important, for these reasons and many more! If there’s anything I can do to help you improve your baby’s sleep skills, please do get in touch. I’m always here to help!

As always, sleep sweetly and deeply through the night x
